Pictures & Notes from the General Membership Meeting - August 28, 2005

Jefferson County Democrats gathered at their monthly "General Membership Meeting" on August 23, 2005 to hear reports from those Democrats who hold public office in Jefferson County.

(Left to Right): David Sullivan (Commissioner, District 2), Phil Johnson (Commissioner District 1), Ruth Gordon (incumbent County Clerk), Julie Dalzell (Prosecutor), Mike Brasfield (Sheriff), and Jack Westerman (Assessor).

Continuing issues that challenge our elected officials include balancing economic growth with environmental conservation, bringing the county clerk's office up to date, increases in crime related to methamphetamine drug making, use, and dealing; coordinating and funding emergency response to hazards and income disparities reflected in skyrocketing housing prices and their impact on affordable housing.

Good news includes the substantial funding for restoring the Court House and a new opportunity to do the planning for sewer and other upgrades in the Tri-Area / Port Hadlock development regions.

Members approved a strongly worded letter to be sent to President Bush urging him to meet with Cindy Sheehan in the final week of his vacation and to "condemn in the strongest language possible the heinous desecration of the crosses placed on the roadside near your ranch that commemorate the loss of nearly 2000 American lives".
Members gathered for a "I vote for Ruth" photo to cap the evening's activities.
