Some two dozen Jefferson County Democrats took part in the Annual Rhododendron Parade, featuring State Committeeman Bill Miller as Uncle Sam with the Bill of Rights, County Clerk Ruth Gordon as the Statue of Liberty, Mayor Michelle Sandoval with a cutout of President Barack Obama flanked by two youthful Secret Service impersonators, and County Commissioner John Austin, District 3.

Some two dozen Jefferson County Democrats took part in the Quilcene parade. Our Democratic booth was a success - we sold lots of Obama signs, gave out numerous state and local candidate signs, sold buttons and stickers. The "Vote-Dems" sticker designed by Gary Estes was very well received and folks were buying it. We raised about $266 - not bad for a small town! After the fair, I received several email messages from local Democrats requesting large yard signs for strategic locations in South County.

My heartfelt thanks to our commissioners and the dedicated Democrats who walked in the parade with high spirits in the soaking rain.

Lori Macklin, a member of the JCD Executive Board, was an Obama delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, August 2008, a singular accomplishment coming from such a small rural county!
